firelands ASSOCIATION for the visual arts (fava)

Founded in 1979, The Firelands Association for the Visual Arts is an independent, non-profit art organization in Oberlin, Ohio dedicated to enhancing public appreciation of and participation in the visual arts through exhibitions and related educational and community activities. FAVA presents changing exhibitions of high quality artwork in a variety of styles and media.

ORGANIZATION SEEKING

Community minded professionals to serve on their talented Board of Trustees. Interested in meeting with individuals from throughout our region who have a desire to be involved with one of Lorain County’s premier non-profit arts organizations and will actively support the mission of improving lives through the visual arts.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF A BOARD MEMBER

Board Members will assist in fund development, strategic planning, and cultivating resources and connections that can improve the organization’s sustainability and long term success.

MEETING DATES/TIMES/LOCATIONS

Currently the Board meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 4:00 PM. These meetings are generally held on the Kendal at Oberlin campus.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Support for FAVA comes from memberships, contributions by individuals and business friends of the arts, commissions on sales, and fundraising events. FAVA also receives support from the Nord Family Foundation, the Community Foundation of Lorain County, the Eric and Jane Nord Family Fund, the Stocker Foundation, the Nordson Corporation Foundation, the Bill Long Foundation, the City of Oberlin (bed tax for promotions), Kohl’s Associates in Action, Meaden and Moore, and the Ohio Arts Council. In 1994, the board of FAVA established an endowment fund for the organization at the Community Foundation of Lorain County to provide future support for exhibitions and education outreach programs.

Membership is open to all. Members receive discounts on purchases, class tuition, and show registration fees, as well as information about upcoming exhibitions, class offerings and invitations to members-only special events.
