On October 28th, the Class of 2010 attended
Regional Day this year at the University of Akron. The theme of the day was
“Transforming the Region through Leadership”. The keynote speaker was Dr. Ned Hill, an economist from Cleveland State University followed by Christine Mayer from the Fund for Our Economic Future.
Before lunch, the 450 attendees observed an interesting and controversial discussion between Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic and Tom Strauss, President and CEO of Summa Health System. This discussion around issues of regionalism was led by Akron Beacon Journal Editorial Page Editor, Mr. Michael Douglas.
The afternoon was spent in several work groups discussing various regionalism leadership topics such as: mentoring entrepreneurs, creating regional task forces to attract new business, STEM programming in schools, and identifying collective governmental interests for possible efficiencies.
Our Leadership class had a lot to talk about on the bus ride back…………….they also had some fun planning the 2009 Holiday Party for the Best Class 2010!
